Like most of the young immigrants, I too, studied at two different countries with completely different teaching systems. United States of America is the second country I studied at. America is also the country that allowed me to learn Enlgish as my second language. In American schools, teachers were not always Asians, and most of the student did not have the same skin color with me. The school environment is so nice, clear and extremely huge. Air conditioning in the summer, and heat in the winter, how nice? Students do not have to clear the classroom before and after school. Teachers no longer write on blackboards, they write on whiteboard with markers. Students from elementary school to high school do not have to buy their own books because the school will provide books. Everything is great about the American schools.
In contrast, the school I studied when I still in china was completely different. First of all, the school environment was different. I used to live in a small village, where you can see a lots of trees, wheat fields, flower gardens and farm. The school is extremely small, and there were only 10-25 students per grade. Elementary school is from first grade to sixth grade. Second, students were assigned in groups to clear up the different area of the school everyday before and after school. The school didn't hire anyone to gardening or cleaning. Third, the teachers and students look the same, we all have the skin color. Fouth, at my old school in China, students have to buy their own book, which were so expensive and can only use for one year, and can't be resell and we pay for all the school tuitions from the very first day till the day we graduate. Plus, there was no heat, nor does there have air conditioning for the summer, all they have are fans. Even, the study environment and the school system wasn't as great as American schools, but I enjoyed the days I had, and the friends I met when I was studying in China.

Qi,
Those are definitely very different environments. Sometimes the physical environment is not the most important aspect -- friends, motivation, community also impact how we feel about our school situations.
